Shake down cruise for the new truck

April 2021

This is our first long haul for the new (to us) Truck pulling the travel trailer

April 5 2021 Monday

Our favorite beach campground is Holiday Travel Resort in Emerald Isle North Carolina. It is a very well run campground with paved streets, grass sites, and right on the ocean with a pristine beach. On weekends in season they have entertainment under a pavilion. It is very hard to get into during the summer; we usually go when there is a cancellation.

It is an easy 160 mile trip for us, the road is four lanes, the land is flat and there are bypasses around all the cities. Hills won’t bother us anymore, the 5.7 Hemi and 8 speed transmission pulls the RV like its not even there.

We had a site steps from the sand dune separating the campground from the beach. I’m still perfecting my griddle skills, its ok and that’s saying a lot from me. I absolutely hate grilling. I’m no good at it, I overcook everything, I’m too old to learn and don’t want to!

I shutter to remember the great beer can chicken fire of 1989 and then there was the letter from the Texas Cattlemen’s association imploring me to stop grilling their beef because I was giving them a bad reputation!

We took a drive and I showed Millie the waterfront property I used to own. In the past I often said selling it was one of the biggest mistakes I have ever made. But now I have a new perspective, if I had moved to North Carolina, I never would have met Millie. The wonderful life we have together trumps any coulda woulda possibilities from our past. We’re living our best lives and not being on waterfront is not important to me anymore.

The trip was just a short test of the new towing vehicle and the RV is still new too us so we really enjoy going out in it. We cooked most all our meals outside on the grill; I think we just ate a sub sandwich from Public’s once. We sat at the beach most afternoons just watching the world go by, life is good!

We spent 4 nights at Emerald Isle, and then returned to our home in Myrtle Beach.
